<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">The 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) was passed after the September 11 attacks and granted the President broad powers in the fight against terrorism. Many of our modern struggles with national security came directly from the AUMF: the longest war in American history, warrantless wiretapping, unaccountable drone programs, and targeted strikes that have killed countless innocent civilians. As Congresswoman Barbara Lee has pointed out, <br />

<p style="text-align: right;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><b><span style="color: rgb(51, 102, 255);">“The law allows for a state of perpetual war, which we cannot and must not sustain. Our troops, our nation, and our reputation around the world depend on it.”</span></b></span></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The AUMF has continued for 13 years now. Over a decade of fighting, over a decade of loss, over a decade of ongoing and endless war. It has to stop. Congress has had opportunities to end the AUMF before and has let them pass by. But progressives like Congresswoman Lee have stood up in favor of peace and ending the AUMF, and now they need your help. <br />
