The Republican’s government shutdown is only part of the picture.‘Generation Opportunity’ — a front group for the Koch Brothers — has launched a propaganda campaign aimed at convincing young people to opt out of the new healthcare exchanges, putting our kid’s health at risk. It's very similar to the way cigarette companies once marketed to college kids in order to get them hooked, then were no where to be found when those kids developed cancer years later.</p>

<p>Generation Opportunity specifically wants to convince the next generation to live without health insurance so that the entire system will fail. If a few of those young people get cancer or are severely injured and can't get the healthcare they need, why should the Kochs care? It won't cost them a dime. Generation Opportunity wants to use college students to forward their own twisted political agenda to kill Obamacare. And we need to stop them.</p>
<p>This Koch front group is currently touring 20 college campuses, giving away pizza, beer koozies, and alcohol from booths staffed by models, all in order to spread lies about the healthcare law. They have made claims that Obamacare is “creepy” and a “pyramid scheme,” including television ads to scare young people. Perhaps you saw the one where someone in a creepy Uncle Sam costume pops up during a gynecological exam?</p>

<p>Here’s the simple truth about Obamacare: it is NOT socialized medicine and it does NOT put the government between you and your doctor. In the new healthcare exchange marketplace, for the first time ever, private insurance companies will compete for your business while they are required to follow basic standards, so the consumer can make an apples-to-apples-style comparison between plans. It’s like shopping for a plane ticket on Kayak.com, where you see the prices, dates, times, and what it would cost to fly coach vs. business class. Plans from different insurance agencies will be seen side by side and people can make their own informed decision for coverage. If you want the minimum, you can select a “bronze” plan and pay a higher co-pay when you go to see the doctor. If you know you think you’ll be visiting the doctor more frequently, a “gold” or “platinum” plan might be a better fit.</p>
<p>Historically, only 11% of young people have been able to afford individual health coverage on their own, leaving 19 million 18-34 year olds without health coverage. Obamacare is a tremendous opportunity for these young people, especially because there are income-based subsidies for those who need financial help — but the Kochs will be spending millions to mislead young Americans through Generation Opportunity. We must stop them.</p>
