I have received far too many communications to respond personally, so although I have never before posted to the list serve, I have asked my wife Sakina to pass on this note to you all.<br><br>I would urge you to read the account of this matter now available on the Fort Bragg Advocate web site at <a href="http://www.advocate-news.com">http://www.advocate-news.com</a>. I believe it is a fair, accurate and quite comprehensive account of what happened.<br><br>Because of irregularities in procedure, and the absence of official notification from the Board that I have been dismissed, I have been advised by legal counsel to go to work Monday morning and continue executing the responsibilities of my position. The annual meeting of the Board is scheduled for next Friday, September 27 at 1:00 at the Senior Center. A new Board Member will be elected from four candidates who applied for the position by the application deadline, and new officers will be elected. A full agenda for the meeting has not yet been published. This is a public meeting.<br><br>On a more personal note I would share that serving the Senior Center has been one of the joys of my life. The financial disaster of the “great recession” could well have been so very harmful to local elders who depend on the Center for so much. Instead, you have all responded to my constant asking for your volunteer work and financial support with such generosity, that we haven’t cut a single service, and in fact are doing more than ever. The wonderful staff of the Center have economized, doing more with less every year and taking on an ever greater work load. The Senior Center belongs to us all - the whole community - and we will have to continue to take on that responsibility.<br><br>In both my personal and work life I have been guided by the directive to treat others with “kindness, courtesy and respect”. A high standard, that I sometimes don’t meet despite my best effort. I would hope that you would all join with me in that commitment. Being on a Board can be very difficult and confusing at times. While we may disagree, please let us voice our truth with a generosity of spirit and a will to do good, not harm.
