The seafood is too radioactive for the Japanese to eat but they are allowed to send it here, and the government is not testing or stopping trade of this deadly poison! I will not eat seafood until it can be tested, and I recommend the same for everyone. There is a place to fill out a petition if you open the link. Mobile Chernobyl bill revs it engines on Capitol Hill
The U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) Committee will hear testimony on S. 1240, the Nuclear Waste Administration Act of 2013, on Tuesday, July 30th at 2:30 PM Eastern. The hearing will be webcast live at the ENR website, and video archived. Those testifying will include Dave Lochbaum from UCS and Geoff Fettus from NRDC. If enacted, this bill would launch a very risky game of radioactive Russian roulette on our country's roads, rails, and waterways. Contact your U.S. Senators. Urge that they block this bill, and instead require Hardened On-Site Storage (HOSS). More

American doctors' group wants US seafood tested for radiation
As highlighted in a news release from Fukushima Fallout Awareness Network (FFAN), the American Medical Association (AMA) recently passed a resolution asking the US "to monitor and fully report the radioactivity levels of edible Pacific Ocean species sold in the United States that could reasonably have been exposed to radiation from the ongoing Fukushima disaster...". This resolution passed in light of contaminated fish found off the coast of Japan that is too radioactive for people there, but would be able to be sold here. More

Coalition challenges Davis-Besse steam generator replacements
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) Atomic Safety (sic) and Licensing Board (ASLB) held an oral argument pre-hearing yesterday, regarding the standing and legal/technical merits of an environmental coalition's intervention against the risky replacement of steam generators at FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company's problem-plagued Davis-Besse atomic reactor on the Great Lakes shore near Toledo. Attorney Terry Lodge (photo, left) represented the coalition, including Beyond Nuclear, and Arnie Gundersen, Chief Engineer at Fairewinds Associates, Inc., serves as its expert witness. Gundersen also testified regarding failed steam generators at two other US reactors, both of which were permanently closed due to this problem. Davis-Besse also has a severely cracked concrete containment. The Toledo Blade has reported that the ASLB will rule on the coalition's standing and the admissibility of its contention next month.
