Dear Agnes,

With the largest shale-oil reserves in the nation, California is facing a rapid expansion of fracking without real state or federal oversight. Oil companies are gearing up to pump barrel after barrel of toxic fracking fluid into the ground in wildlands and communities across the state. And the risks are enormous: Fracking pollution threatens our air, water, wildlife and climate.

Right now California has a historic opportunity to pass legislation to halt fracking in its tracks and save our state from looming catastrophe -- so please, help us make the most of this chance.

Introduced by Assembly Member Richard Bloom, Assembly Bill 1301 places a moratorium on fracking in California and mandates review of threats it poses to the environment and public health. Other states, including New York, New Jersey and Vermont, have already enacted bans or moratoriums on fracking to avoid devastating damage. Now California should do the same.

The Assembly Natural Resources Committee will discuss A.B. 1301 on April 29. Please take action now and tell the committee and your legislators to protect California from a fracking disaster by supporting A.B. 1301.
