Kafka would have a field day......while Mr. T drones on and on about
"dictatorship" in VNZ - the worst abuses have been in Colombia - see here
- and Honduras - previous e-mail.....
only reason we call Honduras and Colombia "democracies" ad do NOT care
about THEIR flagrant human rights abuses is because they are already in
our pockets - letting us and Canada do whatever mining or drilling we
want.
You can check out.....telesur; AfGJ and other sites popping up about the
embassy struggle....

Thank you for this, Kathy. I'm glad the report began by noting that more
people have been disappeared in Colombia under "democracy" than in any
other country in the region, even under military dictatorships. Pinochet's
dictatorship killed and disappeared approximately 3,200 people during its
16.5-year reign of terror.
By comparison, during Alvaro Uribe's eight years as "democratically"
elected President of Colombia, up to 10,000 Colombians were executed just
in the "false positives" scandal
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22False_positives%22_scandal) alone in
which poor young men, many with developmental disabilities, were lured to
remote areas of the country with promises of a job and then shot dead by
government soldiers who claimed they were guerrillas killed in combat. In
Medellin, where most of my family lives, there is a mass grave known as La
Escombrera. Its existence has been known about for years by the people and
by authorities. It is believed to possibly be the largest mass grave in
all of Latin America
(https://www.elconfidencial.com/mundo/2018-05-23/escombrera-fosa-comun-medellin-colombia_1566616/)
and contains the remains of many of the victims of Uribe's military
operations to clear the slums of "subversives." To this day, no one has
dared dig it up. Despite all this and much more, Colombia's ruling class
sees fit to lecture the government of Venezuela about democracy, human
rights, the rule of law, etc. From: Katherine Hoyt To:

segment on Colombia on PBS Newshour This is quite good reporting about
the search for the remains of the disappeared of the paramilitaries of
Colombia during the conflict. No mention of current killings,
however.https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/families-of-colombias-disappeared-endure-never-ending-grief-and-a-wrenching-search
