Dear Ocean-Loving folks,
The U.S. Navy plans to expand their war training exercises near the path of
the annual Gray Whale migration off the U.S. Northwest Pacific Coast . The
exercises include massive sonar, huge explosions and harmful chemicals
being released into the ocean. The Gray Whales will have to travel through
this deadly environment twice every year.
Here you can access the Navy’s draft supplemental EIS –
https://www.nwtteis.com/Documents/2019-Northwest-Training-and-Testing-Supplemental-EIS-OEIS-Documents/Draft-Supplemental-EIS-OEIS
.
The Navy’s powerful sonar has already effected marine mammals world wide.
Yet the Navy claims there is no additional danger to marine mammals and
whales from their proposed war training exercises.
>From their draft EIS. “These analyses suggest a very low potential for
marine mammals to be struck by expended materials or seafloor devices.
Long-term consequences to marine mammal populations from vessels, in-water
devices, military expended materials, and seafloor devices associated with
Navy training and testing activities are not anticipated. ES-11.”
“Short-term impacts on individual marine mammals and long-term consequences
to marine mammal populations from expended materials associated with Navy
training and testing activities are not anticipated.ES-12”
If you don’t want this to happen, please send written comments Before
5/28/19 to:

The navy is sending representatives to Dana Gray Elementary School in Fort
Bragg on May 3, 2019 to describe the Navy's expansion plans. They will be
there from 5–8 p.m. People can call the Navy public Affairs Officer at:
1-360-396-1630 for more information.
The Ocean Protection Coalition was denied permission by the Fort Bragg
Superintendent Schools to place a table with information that contradicts
the Navy’s claims of no harm outside the door of the venue. We will be
staging a protest of the Navy’s expansion plans and denial of OPC access
starting at 4:30 p.m.. Everyone is invited to join us.
