United in SEIU 1021, Port of Oakland Workers Win Strong Contract
Last week Port of Oakland workers ratified a four-year contract that secures fair raises each year and improvements on working conditions, including safety gear and training for workers who deal with raw sewage and shift differentials.
Larry Lee Hope, a port custodian and SEIU 1021 member for 22 years, spoke of these important wins but that members must continue to keep the union strong at the port, "This contract addresses some obstacles, but we have to continue to work on making long-term improvements. Now we can hold our own new employee orientations and welcome our new members without management being there."

Trump’s Proposed “Public Charge” Rule
The Trump administration is poised to issue a rule that would make working class and low-wage immigrants who participate in medical or social service programs ineligible for a green card. Learn about the "public charge" rule and get ready to use your voice to stop the hate

Two Opportunities for Trainings in Stockton
Don't miss two opportunities for steward trainings in Stockton. The Basic Steward Training is designed for new stewards and focuses on the rights and roles of union leaders, legal protections for stewards, problem-solving 101, and Weingarten rights.
The Intermediate Steward training is those who already know the basics. This course looks closer at grievances and investigations, the tests of just cause, dealing with management, and the union’s right to information.
Both trainings will be held in our Stockton union hall, 4226 Coronado Ave., Stockton, CA
* Basic Steward Training - Wednesday, May 23, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
* Intermediate Steward - Wednesday, June 20, 5:30 – 7:30 pm

In Solidarity with Striking
University of California Workers
On Monday, May 7, nearly 53,000 workers at 10 University of California campuses and 5 medical centers began a three-day strike. Workers are protesting stalled contract negotiations and the growing inequality at UC. New research reveals increasingly unequal treatment of low-wage women and people of color working at the university<https://seiu1021.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=1208705e860fa6eccbdaa2f0a&id=bb7790206f&e=0a2127b251>.
We stand in solidarity with the striking workers who are demanding a fair contract and end to the university administration's discriminatory practices. Election Day is
June 5th
Decisions that impact our members’ lives aren’t just made at the bargaining table or at work but also in City Hall, in Sacramento, and in our nation’s capital.
In the months leading up to election day, our Committees on Political Education (COPE) have been hosting endorsements interviews and ask questions from candidates and proponents of ballot measures. Members then discuss and vote on our endorsements.
