I am very excited about the Golden Rule sailing into our Harbor on Sunday June 11th and want to help them with fundraising, go on a sail and have a presentation at Silver's on Tuesday 6/13. They plan to leave Wed 6/14 after some boat tours and possibly another sail out the Harbor. This is an awesome group of peace warriors, trying to end Nuclear war, and we should wholeheartedly support them. They need donations from local businesses and groups, and I know Fort Bragg is a community with a big heart so I have high hopes this will go well. We need to start publicizing, planning and possibly putting together a potluck dinner for the evening of Monday 6/12. Who has a large home or place where we can do this? I will help, who else will step up? Please respond. Ann

Hi all,

I thought I had sent this out almost 3 weeks ago!!! But it looks like I didn't (possibly internet connection issues) and I will need feedback soon - so I'm sending this now and will phone Richard and Ann (and possibly Sheila, who maybe doesn't use email?) tomorrow to discuss whether do hold a potluck AND a presentation at Silver's at the Wharf. Once this is basically settled, I'll send out an article for the press and for newsletters of any organization that would like to know about us.

I copied the notes below AND they are attached as a Word document.

Thank you!
Helen Jaccard

Dear Golden Rule supporters in Ft. Bragg,

Thanks for meeting with Gerry Condon and me on Saturday April 15 during your Occupy Ft. Bragg meeting! It was a very productive meeting and we appreciate your time and enthusiasm.

After the meeting, Gerry and I went to the waterfront to look around. At The Wharf and the restaurant, Silver’s is a very useable dock, good event space, and motel rooms. Jim Hurst, the owner, has offered us moorage, a hotel room, a place to park the RV (shore support) and a venue for our event (provided that we bring in a lot of people who will eat and drink as part of our visit).

Who was there and roles they offered play when the Golden Rule is in Ft. Bragg June 11 – 14 (please let us know if we should add people to our future email streams):

• John Fremont, VFP and founder of the Mendocino County Peace & Justice Center, john at cypresshouse.com<mailto:john at cypresshouse.com> 707-961-0543

• Bob (Legner?), possible crew member (send crew application to Ann) 707-964-1699

• Irene Malone, can translate literature into Spanish, irenelsm at mcn.org<mailto:irenelsm at mcn.org>, 707-764-1931

* Key Contact – Richard and Ann will be our key contact for the Golden Rule at Ft. Bragg

What do you think of having a public presentation and dinner with the crew at Silver’s at The Wharf? If we do that, should we also plan a smaller, more intimate potluck like we had in 2015? I’m hoping that we have a more broad community outreach for the public presentation and dinner than we would have for the potluck; but I need your advice.

In talking with the manager of Silver’s, we agreed that Tuesday June 13 is the best evening for the public event. That will be our last evening in Ft. Bragg, so if we ran into bad weather or other problems leaving Humboldt Bay, we’d have a couple of days leeway before the event.

Jim Hurst also put me in touch with the Ft. Bragg Rotary Club and they have invited us to speak at their June 14 meeting at noon at Silver’s.

If we accept these offers, here is a possible schedule – I’m looking for feedback before we proceed.

Next steps:
1) Agree on schedule
2) Potluck – what time, who can host, who to invite, other speaker(s) – Sheila, could you put together a planning team?
3) Outreach / press:
a. Create flyer – Gerry and Helen will send a draft, and there needs to be room for sponsor names / logos (see below)
b. Create an article for local newsletters, newspapers, magazines – Gerry and Helen will draft
c. Create a public service announcement for radio – Gerry will draft
d. Develop press list – Richard (I have a start on one to send you)
4) Sponsors:
The Golden Rule only sails with donations – we don’t have a foundation or major donors supporting us right now, so we need to reach out before and during our educational events. In this way, we make the voyage self-sustaining and address funding up front rather than as an afterthought. By doing this, we have been self-sustaining during the voyage for each of the past two sailing seasons.
a. What individuals, organizations or businesses would like to sponsor the Golden Rule’s visit? At least $100 (or in-kind donation) to sponsor. We will send out a “Plank Owner Certificate”, put their name / logo on outreach materials and say thank-you to each sponsor during the program.
b. In-kind donations (dock, hotel room, event space, RV parking are being offered by Jim Hurst, owner of The Wharf). We could use fuel, groceries, wine, beer, printing (flyers, fact sheets, brochures), and crew meals.
5) Ideas of who to contact:

a. Indigenous tribes, Japanese Americans, Quakers, Unitarians, environmental, climate change, peace and justice groups, yacht and sailing clubs, historical societies, museums – especially maritime museums, National Association of Atomic Veterans, politicians, senior centers, youth centers and other organizations have supported us.

b. Maritime businesses, harbor districts, fuel docks, restaurants, grocery stores, breweries and wineries could support us with non-cash donations.

6) Develop program for formal presentation:

a. Indigenous welcome

b. Golden Rule – history, current and future voyages

c. Nuclear Issues and actions you can take

d. One or two other speakers on issues of local importance
