[Occupymendocino] Send local student to ACLU Summer Institute

Dear community,

My name is Andy Wellspring and I am the new Social Studies teacher at Mendocino High School.  It is only my second year in this job and I am truly appreciating the opportunity.  I am starting to see the need for a scholarship fund for high school students who would like to participate in social justice-oriented summer programs, and I wonder if you would like to contribute to such a fund.  If you could also pass along this email to others who you think might be interested in helping, thank you!

I have a particular student in mind right now who needs financial support to be able to attend the ACLU Summer Institute in Washington D.C., at Georgetown University.  See this website for full details of the program:

This student will be such a great fit for the Institute, and I am sure his passion for social justice issues and his oratory skills will be strengthened tenfold by attending this summer program.  Unfortunately the Institute only has very limited scholarships and he won't be able to attend without several thousand dollars of community support.  

I know that we all do what we can in terms of making donations, and we all have different kinds of things we prioritize supporting.  If you like the idea of investing in a 17-year-old local student who is passionate about civil rights and has the skills to really succeed in this realm then please be in touch with me.  If you aren't able to make a donation at this time, this student is also willing to do yardwork and odd jobs around your house in order to make money to pay for the Institute.  He has a car and I can promise you will really enjoy meeting him and that he will work hard. 

It would be ideal to collect donations as soon as possible to determine how much support is available and if you prefer to write to me soon and make a pledge of what you can contribute later that would also be wonderful.
