Hi All,
Forwarding the final PR/PSA that Karen Pickett sent out to the North Coast press list today at 3:10pm. Have done some call backs, KZYX and KMUD will cover us on tomorrow's (Fri.) news, Times Standard is interested. We'll will follow up next week with more pr and photos as our Log Walk story develops.
Be thinking about any interviews you might like to give to reporters if they happen to ask you for comments about the Walk etc...
See you 'there',
Naomi

Walk to Heal the Forest Continues
Ceremony at Alex Thomas Plaza Sun. April 2 10:00 in Ukiah
Destination: Willits and Richardson Grove
Humboldt County, CA--The next leg of the "Walk to Let the Forest Heal" will begin on Sunday, April 2, at 10:00 am., with a ceremony at Alex Thomas Plaza in Ukiah followed by a walk to the Mendocino Redwood Company (MRC) log deck on North State St. The Walkers will carry a redwood log and tan oak branches to symbolize the plight of the forest.
At the MRC mill site, the Walkers, led by children and members of the Pt. Arena Band of Pomo Indians, will again call on the Sustainably Certified Company to stop depleting redwoods and killing tanoaks and other vegetation using the herbicide Imazapyr.
Acorns were once a dietary staple of Indigenous populations of northern California and tanoak trees are still held sacred by local Tribes today. Acorns have a central place in Pomo culture and heritage and are considered a potential emergency food source.
Leaving Ukiah at 12:30, the Log Walkers will arrive in Willits at 1:00 pm., gather at the Mariposa Market and walk along Main St.to the City Park for a ceremony and refreshments.
The first “March to Heal the Forest” originated last October from Comptche in Mendocino County, as the manifestation of a dream about a mass procession up the Pacific coast to Alaska, reconnecting the entire ecosystem to protect the planet from climate change. Over several days, the LogWalkers carried the log, branches and message over a 52 mile route to Ukiah.
The intention is to raise awareness of the vital role of the Pacific rainforests in moderating the extreme weather and temperatures, drought and deluge cycles brought on by climate change and to reconnect the fragments to restore the once contiguous forest buffer.
Even fragmented, Pacific rainforests sequester more carbon than any other forests on earth.
Leaving Willits at 3:00 pm., the Walkers and Log will be driven to Richardson Grove, arriving at 5:00 pm., where they will be received with ceremony by those participating in the next leg of the journey. Since not all the roadways are pedestrian-friendly, the Walk will be organized in segments, connecting communities with a message of hope and health for future generations.
Please join us for all or any part of this sacred journey.
