A wonderful restoration opportunity

The citizens of Fort Bragg have a rare opportunity to get involved in the
cleanup and restoration of the contaminated former Georgia Pacific mill
site. The Fort Bragg City Council will conduct a special work session on
Thursday, March 23rd at 6 pm in the Fort Bragg Town Hall to discuss
daylighting two year‐round historical creeks on the mill site.

Daylighting would mean freeing Alder and Maple Creeks from culverts long
buried beneath the
asphalt and restoring them and their adjacent wetlands to the natural
habitat they once were.

The City Council is expected to make a decision about whether or not to
restore these two creeks at the March 23 meeting as part of the plans to
revitalize the mill site property and return it to the Fort Bragg community.

It's critical that they hear what the community wants. Please attend this
meeting and make your voice heard.

To help you understand the potential for the daylighting restoration
project before the March 23 meeting, the city staff has scheduled “Creek
Daylighting Walking Tours. These tours will walk potential future creek
alignments. You will have the opportunity ask questions about creek
daylighting, and let the city know what you think at the following March 23
meeting.

There will be two one-hour Creek Daylighting Walking tours Monday, March
20 and Tuesday March 21. Monday's first one starts at 4 p.m. and the second
one at 5 p.m.on On Tuesday March 21 the first one will start at 9 a.m. and
the second at 10 a.m. Community members can call (707) 961‐2827 ext 111 to
sign up for one of the tours or send an email to SMcCormick at fortbragg.com.

Tour participants should meet on time at the Oak Street gate to the mill
site. They can park their cars in Georgia Pacific's Alder Street parking
lot.
