Raising up the voices of low income, immigrant and working families across California

Ann --

Governor Brown's toxic "by-right" proposal from last year is back again!

By-right will give developers the “right” to build primarily market-rate or luxury housing WITHOUT having to go through the usual city and pubic review processes and it's being voted on TOMORROW in committee! We did it before: lets stop this bill in its tracks!

<http://www.acceaction.org/stop_by_right_2017_1?e=1e7e58c2cb2287481b6676acfa7ed9a5&utm_source=acceaction&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=byright2017_1&n=2>The “build-by-right” proposal would allow development projects to skip most public and environmental review (CEQA) if the developer designates a relatively small percentage of housing units as affordable – 10% in transit areas. So for every 100 units, only 5 or 10 have to be affordable!!

Whether you rent or are buying a home, California has some of the highest housing costs in the country. Wages are in no way keeping up with the rising cost of housing. This will accelerate the displacement that is already happening, pushing our folks further out of the urban areas. We need to raise our voices now!

Tell Assembly Member Cecilia Aguiar-Curry that our communities need a stronger – not weaker – voice on housing development!<http://www.acceaction.org/stop_by_right_2017_1?e=1e7e58c2cb2287481b6676acfa7ed9a5&utm_source=acceaction&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=byright2017_1&n=3>

We do need more housing to be built – specifically, we need housing that is affordable to low income and working families who live and work in our cities! Instead, developers are building more and more luxury housing and pushing working families and people of color out in neighborhoods across California, from the Mission District to West Oakland in the Bay Area, to Boyle Heights in Los Angeles.

>From home health aides and janitors to teachers and nurses, most of us are struggling to find affordable housing near where we work. We need our legislators to advance real solutions to the housing crisis, like strong rent control and eviction protections and increased funding for affordable housing. Giving more power and control of the land to greedy developers is certainly not the solution!

Don’t let real estate special interests get away with taking away the community’s voice.
