Hey!
Thanks so much to everyone who RSVPed to join Tuesday’s nationwide Freedom Cities Slack meet-up so far. If you haven’t had a chance to RSVP and let us know that you’ll be joining the discussion, no worries! Take one minute to let us know in the form attached below:
<https://go.peoplepower.org/go/131?t=1&akid=8343.31391.tly3It> RSVP for the Freedom Cities Slack meetup on June 13th from 7-10 PM ET
We will use your responses to this quick signup form to inform us about the city, county, and state channel-based discussions that we should invite you to join during the meeting. Additionally, we hope you’ll let us know in that form if there’s anyone else from your local group whom we should invite to join the national Slack meetup.
We’ve also put together <https://go.peoplepower.org/go/136?t=2&akid=8343.31391.tly3It> this agenda which includes an outline for how the meeting will be organized, shares some tips for successful collaboration, and highlights some important People Power resources that you may find helpful during the course of the meetup. Please be sure to carefully review the agenda before the start of the meeting!
And like we mentioned before, it’s totally okay if you’ve never used Slack before -- you can still join in the discussion! John:
We’re simply blown away by the progress being made on Freedom Cities nationwide. In less than three months since our launch, leaders like you have posted over 3000 events on our People Power event map -- mobilizing tens of thousands of activists from every state across the country to take direct action to ensure our communities are welcoming of immigrants.
Just based on our May survey of the Freedom Cities campaign, we’ve heard from you that 137 municipalities have either adopted or started the process toward adopting the ACLU's 9 model policies as a direct result of your local efforts. It’s clear that we’ve made some incredible wins, but we can’t slow down until all our local communities are safe.
In the same survey, you told us that one barrier to achieving wins was figuring out how to work with other People Power activists in your community, and as a result, some of you are facing uncertainty around next steps to take in your local campaign. That’s why we want to invite all Freedom Cities activists to a nationwide online meet-up where you can connect with other activists around you and share tactics and strategies:
<https://go.peoplepower.org/go/131?t=6&akid=8343.31391.tly3It> RSVP here to let us know that you’ll join us for our first ever nationwide online meet-up on June 13th from 7PM ET - 10PM ET
Here’s how it’ll work: On Tuesday, June 13th, we’re asking everyone to sign into our Freedom Cities Slack, an instant messaging platform that People Power activists have been using to communicate with each other. Once you’re online, we’ll make sure that you’ve been joined into your local city, county, and statewide channels. The meeting will give you a chance to talk to others in your community about effectively mobilizing either on the 9 model policies or on other statewide immigration advocacy that has been prioritized in your area.
<https://go.peoplepower.org/go/131?t=7&akid=8343.31391.tly3It> Once you RSVP on this form to let us know that you’ll attend, we’ll follow up soon after with further details and a full agenda for the meeting.
Although we hope that you can join us at the start of the meeting and stay until the end, feel free to join any time in between if you only have a limited window of availability during those hours.
And don’t worry if you’ve never used anything like Slack before, or if you’ve tried it but had a hard time navigating the platform. We’ve put together this <http://go.peoplepower.org/go/134?t=8&akid=8343.31391.tly3It> video training that will walk you through all the steps of logging on and using Slack to communicate with other People Power activists from across the country. The video training is very comprehensive and goes through each step of the process in great detail, so if you just need a quick refresher on navigating Slack, or have specific questions about just one aspect of the platform, we’ve also put together this <http://go.peoplepower.org/go/135?t=9&akid=8343.31391.tly3It> slideshow tutorial so you don’t have to watch the whole video every time you want to refamiliarize yourself with the platform.
See you online!
