Our Fort Bragg Union members staged a protest in front of Town Hall and stood up for a fair contract with the City this month. Is it a coincidence that the City attorney, Samantha Zetler of Oakland, will step down and not be the mouthpiece for Linda Ruffing any more? She was getting an amazing amount of City money!

Last month Fort Bragg members voted to ensure that they have the power necessary to fight for a fair contract and against unfair treatment at work. Workers voted to have everyone pays their fair share of the costs of bargaining, contract enforcement, and representation from which all employees benefit.
"We are a small group of members, but we are united in having a stronger voice at our worksites. We’re standing up together for fair wages and benefits. Winning agency shop is a small part of this effort, " says Jim Geokler a Bargaining Team member, and Lead Treatment Plant Operator at Fort Bragg’s WasteWater Treatment Plant.

The fight is not over. It is time to step up.
This afternoon the Senate voted to advance a disastrous and overwhelmingly unpopular healthcare bill. While this was a procedural vote, it moves us closer to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and the loss of healthcare for 22 million people.
While it’s not clear if Senate leadership has the necessary votes to repeal the ACA, it’s abundantly clear what we must do: keep up the pressure to protect affordable healthcare, essential healthcare and Medicaid for seniors, children and people with disabilities.
It’s time for a bipartisan solution that fixes what needs to be fixed to provide quality, affordable healthcare for everyone in America.
In the meantime, call your member of Congress NOW at 866-426-2631 to stop a healthcare disaster. Then join us for healthcare events in your area on Saturday, July 29th: http://ourlivesontheline.org/#find<http://seiu1021.us12.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=1208705e860fa6eccbdaa2f0a&id=89c8e98b3c&e=0a2127b251>
This Day in Labor History: Our Nation's First General Strike

The strike was successful but was broken when some 3,000 federal troops and 5,000 deputized special police killed at least eighteen people in skirmishes around the city.
