I called to ask about the outcome for this bill, which was voted on yesterday but the Congressman's representative did not know the outcome, and then I googled it, but found no news. I hope the CalPERS vote to divest happened! There is a lot of money invested, all the State workers are in CalPERS. Ann

I heard back from Jim Wood's office. He is for the bill in concept, but does not take public positions on bills until he sees the version he will be voting on. The bill is currently in committee.
This seem acceptable to me, but I think it would be well to track the bill and to let other groups in the district know about the bill and that we are watching. Per Ruth, CalPERS objection to divestment is something he would not necessarily be swayed by, though he would look at it.
See y'all on Saturday and at next week's meeting.
Margaret

Hi Jenny,
This is for the list.
I don't remember how I heard of this – there is a bill in the CA Assembly by Ash Kalra, freshman Assemblymember from San Jose, to divest California's two big public employee retirement funds from DAPL. See the text of the bill here: http://leginfo. legislature.ca.gov/faces/ billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id= 201720180AB20<http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180AB20>
I called Jim Wood's office today. Per staff he has not taken a position on this bill. They have been very busy in Sacramento figuring out how to respond to threats the the Affordable Care Act.
I let Ruth (local staffer) know that some local constituents are supporting the water protectors, are passionate about the issue and want to know where our local Assemblymember stands.
Stay tuned. If lobbying is needed, I have some experience doing that and would be happy to coach our group.
Margaret
p.s. If there is a NoDAPL group on the coast, let's them know about this too.
