Donald Trump has threatened to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement.

We've already seen his swift action on other environmental fronts in just the first few weeks of his presidency. If we're going to have any chance of upholding this landmark global agreement to combat climate change, we need to take action now.

Nearly every nation on earth, including the world's top polluters — the U.S. China, India and the E.U — signed the agreement, making historic commitments to reduce carbon pollution and avert climate catastrophe.

If Trump pulls out of the climate treaty, it will thwart the critical environmental progress not just here in the U.S., but also worldwide. And it will turn the U.S. from a respected world leader into a pariah on the international stage.

Every year, more and more of us experience rising temperatures, crippling drought, more severe storms and increased flooding in our neighborhoods.

We know that the President and his climate-denying cabinet's refusal to accept, much less act on, the global threat of climate change threatens our national security. And we know that expanding energy efficiency, solar and wind power will create thousands of new clean energy jobs that will put more Americans back to work — not shackle us to the dirty fossil fuels of the last century.

And perhaps most importantly, Americans know that if we retreat from the Paris Agreement, we're retreating from our fundamental obligation to leave our children a livable planet.

It's no wonder that 71% of Americans, including 57% of Republicans, want the U.S. to stay committed to the treaty.
