Dear Ann,
Reuters just reported the Army Corps of Engineers has canceled the ongoing environmental review of the Dakota Access Pipeline and will allow construction to resume as soon as tomorrow. Once operational, DAPL would send as much as 450,000 barrels of dirty shale oil beneath Lake Oahe each day, endangering the primary water supply for Standing Rock and the Missouri River itself. This is beyond unacceptable!
Here’s where California comes in: CalPERS, our state retirement fund, owns 1.1 million shares of Energy Transfer Partners, the company building this dirty oil pipeline. And thanks to Assemblymember Ash Kalra, there is a new bill in the Assembly requiring our state pension funds divest their holdings from any company involved in the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Sign the petition to your Assemblymember urging California to divest from the Dakota Access Pipeline today! <http://act.ecovote.org/site/R?i=RegfxKdsJA6afyLE_Ln-xw>
California is leading the nation and the world in the fight against climate change and for a clean energy economy. We shouldn’t be investing in dirty fossil fuels to fund our future; but rather, we should invest in the green economy we are building here in California.
Two years ago, we successfully passed legislation in Sacramento divesting our state pension funds from thermal coal because our public monies should go to support our values as Californians. With your help, we can once again divest from dirty fossil fuels and send a message that California stands with the people of Standing Rock to oppose the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Tell your Assemblymember: Don’t invest in dirty fossil fuels, honor California’s climate leadership, and divest from the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Together we will stand against President Trump and his politics of pollution. Together our voices are powerful.
Thanks for all you do,
