[Occupymendocino] Minutes of Feb 4, 2017 Occupy Meeting

 Present: Sheila, Bob, Daniel, Irene, Barbara, Ann and Guest Tim.  Meeting called to order at 12:04.

- There is an EIR for Standing Rock which must be signed by Feb 20, comments re: Tribal Treaty rights, Natural Resources, Cultural and Tribal Sacred places, socio-economic concerns and environmental justice. The best online link is "www//actionnetwork.org/letters/submit-a-public-comment-on-dapl-eis".

- Trump's executive order for a Muslim ban was turned down by a Federal Judge in Seattle, and will go to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.  Then it will go to the Supreme Court, and if they deadlock the decision will revert back to the Federal Judge.  Trump is very angry and trying to foment fear.

- Tim came to meet up after meeting Sheila on Friday near the bank, and related his foreclosure story on us.  Wells Fargo sold him a mortgage he could hardly afford, kept raising the payments, charged balloon payments and then he got scammed by a Law firm in L.A.

Tim spent a lot of time at the law library and tried to hold on as long as possible, but lost the house.  He got $9000 back from the bogus scam lawyer, but no money "trickled down" from Wells Fargo.  We discussed how we can try to make Welist of the foreclosed homeowners, find lawyers that know real estate law. Find a legal assistance program, if any.  This is a bad political climate for protections and consumers - the corruption rules and protections around Dodd-Frank are being dismantled.

- Millsite DTSC meeting - There was a Thursday open house with maps, charts, pictures from 3-5, then a City Council meeting where a presentation to the Council and community was given a 6pm.  There will be a joint Planning and Council meeting Monday to discuss Millsite zoning and land use planning.

- May Day - We can have a March, signs, invite Latinos (Cinco de Mayo?)  To reserve Park costs $.  Discuss next meeting.

- Outreach to Rennie Ennis so Sheila can contact folks who give her their cards by e-mail.  Sheila will find out about Paul Wellstone camps and report back.

- Sun 2/5 in Mendocino at the Community Center folks will do a phone bank and card-writing campaign. 1-3.

- Next Hwy Cleanup will be in March, as it has been raining a lot.

- KZYX Sheila published a good article in last week's AVA.  The financials were not completely disclosed, so Sheila asked for the rules.  The new General Manager, Paul has plans to do trainings.  News costs uncertain as the figures were lumped into the Staffing costs.  But new G/M seems honest and is more transparent than the last guy, Coates.

-  The Democrats are trying to be more progressive, and are having a meeting Feb 15th at the Harbor Lite Lodge, 5:30.
