Clearcutting in Humboldt County May Be History

  Environmental Protection Information Center (EPIC) has submitted a ballot initiative in Humboldt County to ban the destructive forestry practice of clearcutting within Humboldt County and to implement well-recognized principles of sustainable forestry.
Clearcutting and similar forms of management involve the removal of all or nearly all of a forest stand in a single harvest. This extreme forest disturbance harms water quality and wildlife habitat and exacerbates climate change.

Steps For Passing A Resolution In Your City

1. Let us know so we can help you by sending an email to: forests at lomaprieta.sierraclub.org<mailto:forests at lomaprieta.sierraclub.org?subject=I%20would%20like%20to%20help%20pass%20a%20resolution%20in%20my%20city!>.
2. Get friends to help.  We can help you find others who want to stop clearcutting who live locally.
3. Decide which city council member is most apt to be supportive.
4. Obtain factsheets to bring to city council members.  We can send you folders of information or you can print them from our website<https://sierraclub.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2d350067f7c40acdaf4ed1ab9&id=7da4fb62e1&e=62b1fd5469>.
5. Meet with your council member and ask him or her to shepherd the resolution through the city council (or to pass it on a consent calendar).

Gualala River Watershed’s Battle Over Timber Harvest Plan Continues

  The Gualala Redwood Timber Company has submitted a new, revised proposal to log a 402-acre plot of land in the lower Gualala River. This comes just weeks after The California Department of Forestry and Wildfire (CAL FIRE) revoked the timber company’s previous permit due to its incomplete assessment of the environment impact of the logging operation.
