Subject: Cleanup of Millpond and Wetlands

Dear Tom,

I sent a comment earlier asking about Arcadis, the group that worked with Linda Ruffing, Marie Jones, the City and the cleanup crews asking why they were now replaced at this stage of remediation. I just learned that Arcadis is actually a subsidiary of the Koch Industries, who bought G/P and then stalled with lawsuits, talked the City into accepting land use covenants and deed restrictions allowing them to leave toxins in place, then pulled out of rezoning and developing the property. They now want us to accept a cursory cleanup of the ponds and wetlands without doing real thorough studies of the PCBs, dioxins, furans, heavy metals and petroleum products in the Ponds and scattered all over the Millsite. We need to get an outside agency to come do new objective studies, and I read that the studies and tests are not too costly and take only about a week to get results. It is outrageous that the Koch brothers, who are some of the richest people on the planet, are willing to buy off politicians and craft EPA laws to their benefit, but are trying to wiggle out of cleaning up the messes they make when they extract the resources from our lands and watersheds.

There are changes going on in City Hall now, and the Community is united in asking for a thorough cleanup and remediation so we can effect some renovations for renewal of our City. Our future and the future generations of residents here deserve to have an honest, open process of cleanup led by you and DTSC. All of our current City Council members and our Mayor are on the same page now. We are looking for a new City Manager who will be more of a conservationist, and we are getting a Fish and Wildlife Manager who is very much in tune with the restoration and conservation of our waters and fisheries.

Please let me know when DTSC is coming back to Fort Bragg for more workshops. I got a message from a lady named Laurie York yesterday saying that she observed a dump truck filled with soil coming out of the Millsite at three pm on 8/21 heading North on Hwy 1, and it was not tarped or covered. This is disturbing.

I wish to have some responses to my comments at some point. Thank you, Ann Rennacker
