We've won a small victory against polluters and the Trump administration, led by Scott Pruitt at EPA, in their attempt to repeal clean water protections for one in three Americans.

And it's all because of people like you.

A month ago, EPA announced its decision to roll back the Clean Water Rule and opened up a 30-day comment period to get public input. The response has been overwhelming. Already, more than 40,000 Sierra Club members and supporters have sent in their comments to stop this dangerous rollback. The response has been so large, EPA extended the comment period through the end of September.

Your comment matters, and can have a huge impact. Ex-EPA employees have just published a guide to resisting Trump's attempts to gut environmental protections. They pointed out how important public comments are in "making agencies listen."[1]

Especially when you take the time to add a personal story or note, EPA will take that seriously and it will become a part of the argument to keep these water bodies protected.

In 2015, EPA finalized its Clean Water Rule, which protected streams, wetlands, and other water sources that provide water for 117 million Americans. This commonsense clarification helped protect upstream sources of water that had been largely unprotected and was the result of over 400 community hearings and 1,200 peer-reviewed scientific studies.

At a time when we should be focusing on protecting water quality for Americans, this puts too many, especially rural communities that depend on well water, at risk.
