John —
You took the first step by signing the letter. Now, it’s time to deliver it directly to JPMorgan Chase.
hands across the sand
Host an event for the August 23 Day of Action!
You recently signed a letter asking JPMorgan Chase to defund tar sands oil pipelines — thank you!
Now, it’s time to take it one step further. Will you personally deliver this letter to your local Chase bank manager?
In two weeks, people will be taking action across the country to stop the funding of tar sands pipelines. Here’s how you can participate: on August 23, make a visit to your local Chase bank branch. You’ll be delivering the letter you signed to share with JPMorgan Chase’s senior management, urging them to end their financial relationships with destructive oil pipelines like Keystone XL. You could also organize your own lawful, peaceful protest outside, letting JPMorgan Chase know that the people see the injustice it is doing by funding tar sands pipelines. This is your chance. Join other activists on August 23 and take action to resist JPMorgan Chase’s attempts to promote dirty energy at the expense of people and the planet.
Tar sands oil isn’t just any oil. It’s one of the dirtiest, most dangerous fuels out there. It’s sticky, difficult to clean up, and incredibly destructive to extract. And right now, the Nebraska Public Service Commission must determine if they will give the greenlight to build Keystone XL — a pipeline that would carry this exact type of dirty tar sands oil nearly 2,000 miles across the heartland of the United States.
This week, people are testifying in front of the commission, sharing their stories and their voices in opposition to this destructive pipeline. If this project moves forward, it will severely impact Indigenous communities, private landowners, and people up and down the pipeline route. Greenpeace has joined these powerful allies to come together to strongly oppose the construction of Keystone XL.
Now, it’s your turn to turn up the pressure on Chase and other banks — demanding that they defund Keystone XL.
The fight against tar sands pipelines is a battle for survival. These pipelines threaten not only the environment, but human rights and the rights of sovereign Indigenous people and nations. Greenpeace is standing in solidarity and alongside a powerful movement of First Nations, tribes, grassroots groups, community leaders, landowners, national and local groups, and people just like you resisting these dangerous pipeline projects. Will you join this movement to protect the people and the planet from dangerous and polluting pipelines?
Let us know that you want to host an action at a Chase bank near you — and we will set you up with all the information and tools you need to do so.
For people over pipelines,
Diana Best
Senior Climate and Energy Campaigner, Greenpeace USA
P.S. No Chase banks near you? No problem. There are plenty of other banks funding these pipelines. You can still take action — and we can still give you everything you need to host a successful event demanding these banks defund tar sands pipelines!
