Dear Ann,

Donald Trump, who is committed to terrorize, criminalize, and deport our communities, has just nominated Senator Jeff Sessions for Attorney General. Sessions is a long-time white supremacist and ally to the KKK. He has done everything he could during his time in the Senate to make the lives of immigrants difficult.1

We demand that Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senators from both parties stand with the Latinx community and use their power to stop Senator Jeff Sessions from becoming the top law enforcement agent in the country.

Sen. Sessions actively advocated against - and voted against - the DREAM Act and Comprehensive Immigration Reform.2 During his Senate confirmation hearing in 1986 for U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, he was criticized for his support of the KKK.3 Our communities deserve someone better to serve us as the Attorney General.

Senator Sessions has already promised to change the direction of the Justice Department away from civil rights issues. A man with a record like this cannot be in charge of anything with the word "justice" in it. Now, more than ever, we must resist. We must change the culture that allowed Trump and Trumpism to rise to power. The stakes have never been higher. We have work to do and we need to be powerful enough to organize and refuse to support Trump's regime and its heinous agenda.
