Still no key for the Senior Center, so we met at the Company Store. When we find the key we will hide it at the Peace Garden.
Present: Dan, Bob, Ann Sheila, John, Barbara. Meeting convened at 11:06am.
- G/P Millsite cleanup meeting with DTSC was held Thursday to discuss plans, see maps of the proposed OE-U wetlands and ponds cleanup. If approved, the removal of toxins will begin to be trucked out with OU-C and OU-D material this summer. The small man-made ponds will be removed of silt and sediment, up to 250 trucks. They will go out Hwy 20 to State Hwy 101 and go to a site in California. The large Millpond will not be addressed until the Department of Dams in the State Water Agency comes to see how hazardous the dam is - it was previously declared seismically unfit. Many people commented that we want the dam removed, the toxic sludge removed, and the Alder Creek and Maple Creek daylighted. Reported Chris Calder from the Advocate News was there, so maybe a story will be in this week's paper. This was a workshop with question and answer time, and the next meeting will be a presentation of the Working Plan for OU-E. Comment period on the Workshop plans ends 6/13/16, so please make your voice heard! The Project manager's supervisor was here, so they listen.
- We discussed the Mendo Heritage Initiative for Medical Marijuana and got petitions to be signed. FB City has approved zoning for dispensaries in City Limits.
- 4th of July Parade - Carrie will register all activist groups together, and Sheila suggests we help with the entry fee. No word yet on the theme, but all groups can carry their signs, Bob will have his truck running and we can have Banners on both sides, and we can use puppets, costumes, and other ways to be visible. John wants to feature some of our activist heroes, and Will could come up with some new signs.
- Bernie was in Cloverdale Friday, so the Bernie HQ didn't host a first Friday event, but on June 10th there will be a meeting a 5pm to decide on the next steps. Several of us will attend, and John will ask if O/M can take over the building after Bernie HQ leaves in July. He has a $400 rent and its a great location!
- John wants more people to come to O/M and he's send out e-mails to folks who signed up in 2011 but are inactive now. What issues will excite folks? We want to keep the revolution alive! Stick to issues, no personal attacks. Zone in on our O/M focus.
Bob watches world news, and reported on the turmoil in France that may affect us here. There are 19 Nuke plants, and the Nuclear Waste is in underground salt mines, which are flooding. The art in the lower floor and the basement of the Louvre Museum must be moved. People are being evacuated. There are labor problems due to new restrictions that will set back the benefits for workers.
- We discussed the problems of Corporate control of Governments and the War Machine. The Pentagon wants to expand, but they are not accountable and need to be audited. Obama is trying to push for an expansion of Nuclear Weapons, and the Generals keep asking for more tax money to spend overseas on war. We spoke about the Department of Peace that Peace and Justice Center was involved in 2002-2003, before "W" Bush took us to war. Kucinich started it.
- There is another meeting about the proposed Transfer Station on Hwy 20 on Thursday June 18 at Town Hall, 6:00. F&W should be contacted, all attend please.
- Fracking was approved offshore in California by the EPA and Gov. Brown, in spite of the Santa Barbara spill and Porter Valley methane leaking vast toxins.
How can we try to stop this boondoggle? Look at the EPA permit---
- Tuesday 6/7 is the election, and if Measure W passes it will be huge. The 15 Commissioners will pass the precautionary principle and more...
Meeting adjourned 12:50.
