Big News!  California DISCLOSE Act could pass in Assembly this week --
with your help!

Finally the day we've been waiting for -- AB 700, the California DISCLOSE
Act, will be voted on by the full Assembly as early as Wednesday!

AB 700 will strike the biggest blow yet against the unlimited secret money
unleashed by Citizens United by requiring that ballot measure ads and ads
about candidates by outside groups clearly disclose their top three true
funders -- on the ads themselves.

The Assembly will vote any day now, so we must tell them to vote "Yes" on
AB 700 now!

SIGN THE PETITION to send an email asking your Assemblymember to vote
"Yes" on AB 700 -- even if you've signed before!

Authored by Assemblymembers Jimmy Gomez and Marc Levine, and sponsored by
the California Clean Money Campaign, the new language in AB 700* is taken
from the on-ad disclosure portions of the Voters' Right to Know Act
initiative.  This means the two fit together and AB 700 now requires the
type of clear and prominent disclosure on both ballot measure ads AND ads
about candidates by outside groups that the California Clean Money
Campaign has always advocated.

Television and video ads will have to display the names of their top 3
true funders on a solid black background on the bottom third of the screen
for a full 5 seconds.  Each name must be displayed on a separate line in a
large clear font and using regular capitalization.  No more fine print.
There are similar rules for radio ads, print ads, online ads, and
robocalls.

Equally important, there are new rules for earmarking and tracking to
identify true funders when they try to hide behind shell groups with
misleading names.  Although a few further refinements are needed to
guarantee voters are no longer deceived, this is the beginning of the end
of ads routinely and legally misleading voters.

SIGN THE PETITION to send an email asking your Assemblymember to vote
"Yes" on AB 700 -- even if you've signed before!

Here's what the petition that emails your message directly to your
Assemblymember says:

It's wrong to let political ads mislead voters about who paid for them.
Knowing the true identity of the messenger is critical to evaluating the
  credibility of the message.

As your constituent, I'm asking you to right this wrong.  Please vote
Yes on AB 700, the California DISCLOSE Act, to require the three largest
funders of ballot measure ads or ads about candidates by outside groups
to be shown clearly and unambiguously -- on the ad itself.

Thank you. Your vote will impact the integrity of our elections.

Sign the Petition Now!

Thank you for standing with the California Clean Money Action Fund in the
fight for fair elections.  Together, we will create a democracy that is
truly of, by, and for the people.
