OCCUPY MENDOCINO

Minutes of meeting of April 9, 2016

 

Present:  Sheila Dawn, Irene Malone, Ann Rennaker, Will Beaumont, Jinx
Bridges, Dan Baker (Stacker), Agnes Woolsey (Facilitator), Durand Evan, Glen
Scholl, John Fremont (Secretary)

 

1. Charter Project will be explored at a Town Hall Meeting 4/15/16, 3 p.m.,
Senior Center for discussion of Charter County initiative. If Charter
passes, then 15 of 17 names proposed will be elected to draft Charter for
the November ballot. For more information, go to www.join.windtunneling.com

2. May Day event, Sun. May 1st, Noon-3 p.m.  International Workers Day.
Sheila spoke with City Officials; they want fees and insurance for use of
Bainbridge Park. We decided to look elsewhere.  Ann checked with the
Lutheran Church and we can use their hall in case of rain. Otherwise, tables
outside the church from 1-3. Meet at Bainbridge Park at 12:30. Sheila will
lead a march around town from 12:30-1:00 or 1:30. We want attendance from
unions and labor leaders. Bernie Sanders group will register voters (must
register by 5/23 to vote in the June primary). There will be a slide show,
Q&A and afterward the speaker, Paul Cienfuegos of Community Rights fame will
speak.  There will be raffle tickets with prizes, refreshments (coffee, tea,
snacks). Robin Sunbeam sent PSAs that can be printed online or will be
available at the May Day event, along with yard signs. Music, kids games
(possibly a Maypole). Details will be worked out at next meeting

 

3. Hospitality House not providing transitional housing for homeless clients
as promised but using rooms for staff. A $500,000 grant is available for
homeless issues, but city has not applied. Oversight of Hospitality House
needed. Occupy will stress this at City Council meeting at Town Hall on 4/11
at 6 p.m. Sheila will draft a "Bill of Rights for the Homeless." 

 

Next meeting set for Sat 4/16/16 from Noon-2 p.m., followed by Town Hall
Meeting (see #1).
