Heads up, activists. I signed a petition to stop Wildlife Services from killing predators in Mendocino County, which was adopted, and now the Supes are hearing the issue at the May 5 meeting in Ukiah. We need to chime in on comment time about this. Ann

        Dear Ann,

Next Tuesday afternoon, May 5, we have a chance to put Mendocino County one step closer to fully severing its ties with Wildlife Services, the rogue government program that has, for years, been killing wild animals in our county with impunity. Since you live in this area and are an activist with the Center for Biological Diversity, I thought you'd be interested in knowing about this -- and I hope you'll consider coming to an important hearing: On May 5 the county's Board of Supervisors will hold a public meeting to discuss new ways forward, and it's our hope to pack the house in support of wildlife.

This meeting is a critical step in our effort to convince Mendocino County to transition its predator-control program away from the destructive, cruel tactics of USDA's Wildlife Services to a nonlethal program like the one in Marin County, which has successfully reduced predator conflicts by 62 percent since 2000.

At the meeting our coalition partner Camilla Fox from Project Coyote will give a presentation on these proven, common-sense nonlethal alternatives that emphasize coexistence with coyotes, bears and mountain lions. I'd love for you to come -- to meet other activists, support Camilla and, if time allows, even testify during the comment period.

The meeting will be sometime in the afternoon in the County Administration Building, 501 Low Gap Road, Room 1010, Ukiah, CA. And while we won't know the exact time until 72 hours prior to the meeting when the agenda is finalized, if you RSVP to me I'll keep you in the loop.

Learn more about the Center's work to reform Wildlife Services nationally and in Mendocino County.

Thanks for all you do for the wild!
