Call Congress: Republicans are trying to kill the Internet
Republicans in Congress are launching a desperate, last-ditch effort to
stop the FCC from voting on Net Neutrality rules. Two key committees just
held hearings in an effort to gin up support for the legislation, and a
vote on the bill could come soon â please call committee members and
tell them to let the FCC do its job and oppose the Republicans' bill.

Dear Agnes,
We're winning the fight to protect the open Internet.
But, with the FCC just weeks away from voting on Net Neutrality rules,
Republicans in Congress are making a desperate, last-ditch effort to stop
the vote by proposing watered-down legislation that would strip the FCC of
much of its authority to regulate the Internet.^1
The House and Senate just held hearings to push this dangerous, backdoor
attack on Net Neutrality, and a vote on the legislation could come soon.
We have to go all out to stop it.
Our friends at Battle for the Net built a call tool that will connect you
with members of the key committees in the House and Senate so that you can
urge them not to meddle with the FCC.

This cynical attempt to derail the FCC is being led by Republican Senator
John Thune and Representative Fred Upton, the new leaders of the key
congressional committees that oversee the Internet.
Thune and Upton are pitching their legislation as a reasonable
"compromise," but they are the same people who are on the record calling
Net Neutrality rules âunjustifiedâ and a âsolution in search of a
problem."^2
Unless they've both had dramatic changes of heart it's quite clear that
the legislation is a stealth effort to force the FCC to delay its vote and
stop open Internet advocates like us from scoring an all-out win when the
FCC votes on new rules in February â not a sincere effort to protect
the web.
There's simply no reason to stake the future of the Internet on a messy
legislative fight in a Congress dominated by Republicans, where telecom
companies have enormous power to influence the content of a final bill,
when the FCC already has all the authority it needs to guarantee Net
Neutrality.
We've come too far in this fight to be stopped by members of Congress
cutting a terrible, 11th hour deal. Please call the committee members
right now and tell them to let the FCC do its job.
