Hi All,
I signed this petition. Please read and sign on.
Agnes
Governor Brown allowed fracking waste to be illegally injected into
protected aquifers!
Tell Governor Brown:
"You allowed the oil industry to illegally inject fracking wastewater into
federally protected aquifers used for drinking water and irrigation during
our historic drought. Immediately shut down all illegal oil waste
injection wells, then place an emergency moratorium on fracking in
California."

Dear Agnes,
[2][IMG]
Shocking news: An EPA investigation has revealed that, in flagrant
violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act, California regulators have
handed out over 2,500 permits to illegally inject oilfield waste into
federally-protected aquifers â many of which are used for drinking water
and irrigation.^1
Governor Brown not only knew about this â he encouraged it.
The problem goes back decades, but nearly half of the injections have
taken place or been permitted by Governor Brown. In 2011, he even fired
the state's top two oil regulators after the oil industry executives
complained that mandated state environmental reviews were slowing down oil
well drilling.
Even with regulations, as long as fracking is allowed, public health or
our precious water will be a casualty. This kind of regulatory corruption
and abuse is exactly why Governor Andrew Cuomo banned fracking outright in
New York state. Governor Brown must follow suit and stop fracking
altogether in California.

Since 2011 Governor Brown received repeated warnings from the EPA that his
administration wasnât doing enough to protect groundwater from oil waste
injection wells.
Not only did he ignore these, he doubled-down for the oil industry.
According to reporting by the Associated Press, in 2012 Governor Brown
declared:
"The oil rigs are moving in Kern County. We want to use our resources...
our sun and all the other sources of power. It's not going to be easy.
Thereâs going to be screw-ups. Thereâs going to be bankruptcies.
There'll be indictments, and there'll be deaths. But weâre going to
keep going. Nothingâs going to stop us."^2
Thereâll be deaths!?! Nothingâs going to stop us!?! Really Governor
Brown?
It is long past time for Governor Brown to turn the page from this
stunningly dangerous and reckless approach.
Hereâs the reality: Governor Brown clearly supports fracking and has
resisted our calls to ban it. But he is in his last term as governor, he
will likely not run again for office, and he doesnât need to worry about
pressure or future funding from the oil industry.
This damning scandal, however â and how he responds to it â will help
define his legacy. Making sure he hears our voices as this scandal unfolds
is the best way we can make the case against fracking.

In response to an EPA-imposed deadline, Governor Brown's administration
proposed closing up to 140 of the roughly 2,500 illegal injection wells by
October. In short, far too little, far too late.
But even this appallingly inadequate response has prompted oil industry
shills like the Western States Petroleum Association's Tupper Hull to
complain that shutting down illegal injection wells would be an
unreasonable burden on the oil industry.
Our state's devastating drought, which has forced many communities to cope
with mandatory or voluntary water rationing, may not give pause to the oil
industryâs dangerous thirst for profit threatening californians. But it
should give pause to the governor who has been sworn to protect us.

Thank you for fighting fracking.
