   friends

They're calling it "NAFTA on steroids" -- a new trade deal, being
negotiated in secret, that could destroy even more jobs and take away even
   more of your rights.

It's the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the latest trade deal being cooked up
in secret by big corporations and their lobbyists. Not only is this a bad
idea -- President Obama wants the ability to keep Congress out of the
negotiations by getting "fast track authority," limiting the public's
ability to even know what is in the proposal.

In his State of the Union address earlier this month, President Obama
acknowledged that past trade deals "haven't always lived up to the hype."
That's an understatement. Since NAFTA was adopted in 1993, we've watched
income inequality soar as corporations use these trade deals to send jobs
overseas and slash wages at home. The middle class suffers as high wage
jobs vanish, even as the rich get richer.

The president promises this time will be different. I'm sure he has good
intentions. But we have tried this approach before and it hasn't worked.
Previous trade deals prove that big corporations will take advantage of
the deal to send more of our jobs overseas, to take advantage of low wages
   and weak environmental rules.

The first step: make sure that Congress rejects fast track authority for
President Obama. Senator Elizabeth Warren is leading the fight in Congress
to protect her and her colleagues' right to stand up for the American
people on this deal. It's time to stand with her.

[1]Will you join DFA and Senator Elizabeth Warren in telling Congress:
Don't give fast track authority to President Obama? Help us stop yet
another bad trade deal that will destroy what remains of the middle class.

Sen. Warren laid out some of the main problems with the TPP. It would:

     * Erode important safeguards designed to prevent future financial crises
     * Allow companies to use secret trade tribunals to challenge and
override U.S. laws, including labor and environmental protections
     * Prevent the U.S. from enacting new limits on toxic financial products,
or from taxing international financial transactions

That's not all. The TPP will make it easier for corporations to send
American jobs overseas. It will undermine wages by forcing Americans to
compete with workers in countries where the average wage is just 56 cents
   an hour.

The TPP will put our health at risk by allowing unregulated food products
into our country. For example, it would require us to allow imports from
countries where toxic chemicals banned in the U.S. have been found in
seafood. Under the TPP, we wouldn't be able to hold those imports to U.S.
   safety standards.

[2]We can't let another bad deal undermine American workers. Stand with
Sen. Elizabeth Warren and tell Congress: Don't give fast track authority
   to President Obama.

Thank you for joining the fight against this terrible trade deal.
