Vote for our future
We can't let anti-public education billionaires buy our schools.
The Press Democrat's recommendation for the State Superintendent of
Public Instruction is wrong.
Marshall Tuck, whose education is in business administration and who
worked as a Wall Street investment
broker before being hired as CEO for a charter school company, is
supported by and his campaign is paid
for by twelve millionaires and billionaires who have donated over $5
million. Why? These contributors,
including an oil tycoon, the heirs to a big-box anti-worker chain,
and a big stock trader, are pushing a corporate
agenda that would privatize our schools, push for more standardized
tests and strip workers of their collective
bargaining rights.
The better candidate is Tom Torlakson, who earned a master's degree
in education, taught high school science,
coached track, and taught at a community college. He supports
increased school funding and limits on the use
of student test scores. Torlakson has used his teaching experience
to make schools safer and to help students develop
real world skills, working with educators, parents, and the community
to advance lifelong learning from early
childhood through higher education.
As a retired teacher, and now a great-grandmother, I ask you to vote
for Tom Totlakson for the better future of
our public education system.
