Occupy Mendocino General Assembly

June 21, 2014

Present: Agnes, Bob, Daniel, Irene, Jessie, Linda, Mark, Sheila

Facilitator: Agnes
Secretary: Linda
Stacker: Mark

Process: Raise your hand, be acknowledged by stacker, estimate how much time you need.

Community Rights Network. Deadline for Fort Bragg petitions is Tuesday by noon to Caitlin. Petitions to be submitted to Registrar of Voters in Ukiah June 26. Agnes, Bob, Sheila, and Linda worked on the signature jam. Looks like we’ll be on the Nov. ballot. Good work, all!

4th of July parade. Sheila wrote an email requesting other groups to join us under the banner Grassroots Democracy. The request was emailed to the Announce list, Mendocino list, Green list, CRN list, Occupy list. A Green friend of Sheila’s will be making green posters stating: “Compassion,” “Collaboration,” “Compassion,” and “Connection.”
The parade application was filled out. Whether or not we’ll have a vehicle is yet to be determined. Application to be sent in by June 30 by Linda.
The parade sign-making party will be Saturday, July 28, from 1–3 at Linda’s in Fort Bragg. Call 964-8985 for directions.
We passed the hat and collected $20 for the parade. It’s free, but they appreciate donations.

County charter. Agnes reported that they’re waiting word from Robin to get together to revise the charter to include John McCowen’s suggestions. Once that’s done, we’ll, hopefully, have three votes on the Board of Supervisors to put the measure on the ballot.

Mass incarceration. Irene reported that October has been named the month of resistance to mass incarceration. Hopefully, we’ll be a part of that movement. Agnes stated that the Matt Taibbi book, “The Divide: American Injustice in the Age of the Wealth Gap,” talks about police made to get as many arrests as possible on the books so stats are up, even if the arrests are shams. The majority of arrests are to people of color. Check out http://stopmassincarceration.net.

Friday rally. Bob and Sheila have been demonstrating at Wells Fargo from 3 to 5 p.m.; more folks attend the 4 to 5 p.m. Chase rally.

Citizen Koch film. The film can’t be screened at Coast Cinema; it’s not part of the chain of theaters that does those types of events.

Yard sale. Next Friday Linda will check with Julie, owner of Mendocino Chocolate Co. as to who the owner of the property is. Then we’ll ask if we can have a garage sale there at the Bank of America property.

Miscellaneous.

Today, June 21, is Solstice. Sheila just attended a Native American ceremony. The leader said that protecting our water is our most important issue. That matriarchal healing energy is the healing energy of the planet, as women understand the concept of nurturing.

Sheila acknowledged the work and commitment of our Occupy Mendocino core members.

The Department of Public Toxic Substances is returning to the coast in July for public comment.

Ed has asked the Board of Supervisors to hold off on their ban on fracking if the CRN ordinance gets on the ballot. This way, voters won’t get confused about two possibly similar sounding ordinances.

Meeting adjourned.
