Guilty plea in Mendocino County bank, bookstore heists
A Mendocino Coast man has pleaded guilty to robbing a Ukiah bank and Fort Bragg bookstore in late July, according to the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office.
Flynn Washburne, 51, also posted veiled confessions on Facebook, according to the prosecutor's office.
He faces up to eight years in prison for the two counts of robbery. Washburne admitted to robbing the Bank of America and Cheshire Books shortly after his arrest in early August, according to Fort Bragg police.
Law enforcement officers were seeking Washburne as a suspect in the Bank of America robbery when the bookstore was held up, with the robber using what turned out to be a toy gun. Bank surveillance cameras captured images of him during the heist, officials said.
After the bank heist, he posted to Facebook: "Well, people. I've advanced into the big leagues. Without going into too much detail, I have definitely stopped fence straddling in the matter of being a criminal or not," according to the District Attorney's Office.
After his arrest, a Facebook posting by proxy read: "Cavalier posts regarding my criminal acts seem ill-advised and inappropriate."
