I revised my letter to the Advocate - and Jessie wrote a good forum about O/M's role in our community. I hope Kate publishes both. Ann

Kate, I hope this fits - cut it down if necessary. I don't have a word counter in my e-mail. Ann
Dear Senior Center supporters, I was shocked and saddened to learn that the Board Members of the Senior Center called a sudden meeting this week, without proper notice to the public, during which Charles Bush was voted by 4 board members to be fired.
Since Charles has taken over as Director of the Senior Center, the food has improved, the garden produces vegetables and greens, he puts extra time into directing programs and overseeing lunches, and he has brought in donations and given back some of his salary due to sequester cutbacks. Charles Bush is the best Director we could have, forming personal relationships with the staff and the public. He has interviewed many seniors and has a library of tapes called 'Senior Perspectives' that people can view. In his interviews he draws out each senior's story out in a compassionate manner. I have learned a lot about folks I thought I knew from these insightful interactions.
There was a wonderful fundraising event at the Caspar Community Center with a silent auction and local talent playing to a packed house. Fundraising is not a job of the director according to the bylaws, and the criticism from disgruntled office workers and board members has rippled through the Center. About two weeks ago Charles had an endorsement from the public by letters and petitions to the Board when rumors of firing circulated, and we were assured that there was no immediate threat; the board gave him 6 months to do more paperwork.
There is a Board Meeting Friday Sept 27 at 1pm, and many of us will attend.
Thank you, Ann Rennacker
