Actually, there is a state program to rehouse homeless people that pays for
deposits. It will pay for a deposit that is equal to up to two full months
of rent. They will also pay for deposits to connect services, such as
water, electric, etc. To get it, one just needs to go down to the Social
Services office on Franklin St. Anyone who is on SSI, SSDI, food stamps,
GA, or CalWorks is just about guaranteed to qualify. I know this because I
used the program to move into my place last year.

Also, for anyone working on the local homeless services issue, you should
definitely read this from the Anderson Valley Advertiser. Apparently, Mendo
village isn't so receptive to "street people" (their words, not mine)
anymore.
