Dear Agnes,

The State Department has just released its environmental review of the
Keystone XL tar sands pipeline and, as we'd feared, the results
are recklessly insufficient.

Despite the President's tough talk on confronting climate
change, his State Department shrugged off the devastating climate
impacts of a pipeline that would drive dramatic expansion of
heavily-polluting tar sands development.

We must mobilize as quickly as possible to push back on this
botched review and demand that President Obama deliver on his promise
to tackle climate change.

Tell President Obama to reject the State Department's
flawed assessment and send them back to the drawing board.

Producing tar sands oil generates three times as much greenhouse gas
pollution as regular crude oil production. Building the Keystone XL
would be the same as putting at least five million new cars on the
road!

Downplaying the climate impacts of this added pollution is
like ignoring the increased odds of getting lung cancer from smoking
more cigarettes.

The State Department is also aware that the corrosive properties of
tar sands oil increases the likelihood of pipeline leaks and spills.
In fact, the Keystone XL's sister pipeline leaked more than 12
times in its first year of operation!

But that's not properly addressed in
this new review either.

We must not let the administration paper over these all-too-real
environmental threats.

President Obama has promised action on climate change. If he rejects
this pipeline, he can keep the dirtiest fuel on the planet where it
belongs: in the ground. But if he allows it to go forward, he will be
locking us into decades of increased carbon pollution and climate
disruption.

Urge the President to deliver on his climate promise

by rejecting the State Department's flawed review of the
Keystone XL.

In the weeks ahead, I'll be writing to ask you to submit a
message of opposition directly to the State Department, which w
