(Some of you may remember Crispin from when he lived on the Coast.)

Begin forwarded message:

Howdy folks,

Last week the Board of Supervisors voted to kill going forward with a clean energy program to fund energy efficiency and renewable installation throughout the county. This would be a voluntary program which has been successful in many other counties and cities, funded through an assessment on the tax bill of participating home owners. The financial industry lobbied heavily against this measure, and the Board never really considered the long term threat of extreme climate change.

In my opinion, this is very short term thinking with disastrous long term consequences. As you may know, we have now passed 400 ppm CO2 in the atmosphere. The last time the planet supported that much CO2 was about 3.5 million years ago, and the sea level was several hundred feet higher. Take a moment to imagine the adverse economic impact of that kind of sea level change. While we might not still be alive when the full effect comes to pass, this is a sad legacy to leave our descendants.

Keith Rutledge has put together an online petition requesting the Supervisors reconsider this vote. I am forwarding you the link, and asking that you sign it, and email this out to anyone else you think would be concerned about the future of our civilization.

Cheers.
