Greetings,
The 2013 MLK event is finally finalized. We hope it poses no conflict.
Our annual celebration of MLK Day here on the coast will be held at
noon on Monday, January 21, at the Trinity Lutheran Church at 620 E.
Redwood at Corry, in Fort Bragg.
Please join us in remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We’ll commemorate the Selma bus boycott by marching through Fort Bragg
from noon to 1 PM (let’s congregate at 11:30 at the Trinity Lutheran
Church at 620 E. Redwood in Fort Bragg). Then enjoy a hearty lunch
from 1 to 2 PM.
Our program so far includes the wonderful singing group, River, made
up of Carolyn Carleton, Cynthia Frank, and Sari Scanlon. Their a
capella repertoire is spectacular. Another treat will be singing along
with the Fort Bragg Peace Rappers, led by Irene Malone. They'll sing
freedom songs in Spanish and English--a treat for both young and old.
Other music groups, including the Occupy Songsters performing rousing
songs.
Our panel of activists who worked in the south for civil rights in the
1960s includes Steve Antler, John Fremont, and Tom Wodetski. It's a
program that includes hearing from you on what Dr. King would say
today about workers’ rights, unions, bank foreclosures, gun control,
peace, freedom, and more.
We can use some help in putting on the event and are asking for those
of you who want to pitch in to step forward. Here are the tasks we
could use help with:
1. We need 6 or 7 people to cook a dish to feed around 20 people
(vegetarian or non-vegetarian). Reimbursement for food supplies is
available.
2. We need help with setting up the at the church starting around
11 am.
3. We need people to help serve food at lunch.
4. Last but certainly we need help with cleanup and breakdown.
If you would like to help out, please email john at cypresshouse.com.
Let's make this year's event the best ever!
Thanks,
The MLK Organizing Committee
