Dear Occupy Mendocino supporters,
Facilitator & Secretary : Sheila Dawn
Stacker & Treasurer: Jessie
Ten members were present.
Sheila Dawn reported that our year membership with MCTV has ended. Renewal of our membership will be postponed until our debt to MCTV is paid & also is dependent on the energy to pursue future shows.
Foreclosure Committee:
On Feb 12th, four members of Occupy Mendocino--Mark, Ann, Agnes & Sheila attended the Bd. Of Supervisors meeting to hear the presentation by Mr. Kuhrey, Director of the EFDC -the County's economic and development counsel. Public Banking was briefly noted as one of the possibilities being currently explored. OM members were joined by Ellen Rosser of Point Arena and a Ukiah resident in advocating for a Public Bank as a means of helping residents facing foreclosure and keeping taxpayers money to fund local projects.
Agnes spoke to the event at the County Recorder's Office on Feb. 13th where Jed Davis pointed out that his documents appeared to be fraudulently (robo signed) notarized. She also reported that two people responded to the letters sent out to home owners in foreclosure by attending that day and expressed gratitude for the information.
D.A. Eyster has expressed a keen interest in fighting foreclosure fraud.
C.J. Holmes attended the meeting and asked Susan Ranochek if she would support an audit if the funds were obtained. She responded that she would be in favor of an audit and also would be open to training volunteers to help with the additional workload of tracking claims of fraudulent proceedings. Her website is ranochas at co.mendo.ca.us if anyone chooses to urge her to devote time to this important issue.
Discussion took place on how to get the topic on a list for a Medocino County grand jury investigation.
A motion was passed unanimously to create a petition to stop illegal foreclosures. A committee was formed to work out the specific wording.
John Fremont commented that it would be important to have the support from the F.B. City Council & the Bd. of Supervisors.
It was noted that several banking officials are retiring--Mr. Lombardi of the Savings Bank of Mendo. County and Ms. McManemy of the F.B. Credit Union. It was suggested that both be approached to give advice on public banking and be possible candidats for Board members.
Fremont also told the group that the Peace & Justice Center was donating $500 to Occupy Mendocino. He also remarked that the P&J Center was interested in paying the rent for a store front that would serve as headquarters for Occupy Mendocino.
Discussion took place on other possibilities for a meeting space until a permanent headquarters for OM is achieved since our funding for the Senior Center has been used. Alternatives of the Library or the Company Store were suggested. Ann will check with the Library schedule. With the possibility of changes of location, the OM meeting schedule will be posted at occupymendocino.net
Publicity:
Agnes put a letter in all the newspapers describing the steps on how to fight foreclosure.
Sheila received a letter fro a friend in New York asking for a poster to be added to a collection of Occupy posters hung in a SoHo restaurant. Richard said he would work on something suitable.
Our street demos on Friday at 2 P.M. to 4 are continuing with occasional new people joining us. Last week a supporter bought a pizza for those on the front line educating the public on bank accountability for fraudulent practices.
Fundraising:
So far OM has received $170 in contributions from over 250 letters sent out around Valentine's Day. Premiums of hats & T-shirts are still available for those who desire one.
Candidates for City Council were noted: Derek Hoyle, MS. Kraut & Madeline Melo. Further discussion to be on the next meetings' agenda.
Next meeting: March 2nd. Agnes-facilitator, Ann-Secretary The committee for wording a petition against fraudulent foreclosures will meet at 1 P.M. that day.
Respectfully submitted,
Sheila Dawn
