Meeting called to order 2pm - Mark Facilitator, Ann Secretary
Present: Mark, Agnes, Sheila, Richard, Howard, Jessie, Ann, Dan, Linda, guest Christina Healy
MCTV Petitions were given to City Council by Richard - They were MoveOn (almost 500) and Richard found that group will give help with $50 to help your campaign. Ann, Irene, Sheila and Richard all spoke at the City Council meeting about the loss of MCTV, and the need for public access broadcasting of public meetings and events. Howard reminded us that there is a Federal mandate in place requiring public community access, and some feel that the Grand Jury should be alerted to investigate the City and County's failure to protect the public assets. The City now has a committee in charge of the issue - Heidi & Meg are contacts.
Agnes reported on the Board of Supervisors meeting where the Charter on Banking was presented. Ellen Rosser gave an overview of the Public Bank in North Dakota. Dan Gjerde met with Agnes & Ellen and went through the points of the Charter. He asked to keep talk of his involvement quiet until things are finalized. There are 350 signatures so far, and it is a draft, but as we meet with Supervisors, it evolves. We want to get it on the Ballot in November. It does the following: (1) Keep the money local (2) Keeps people out of foreclosure (3) Creates a Public Bank for County revenue (4) Makes Mendocino County a Nuclear Free zone (5) Bans Fracking in Mendocino County. There is another planning meeting in Boonville 8/23 (Friday) .Mark suggests that we nail down the final draft after all the Supervisors have had meetings with the committee and then we can get stuff printed for the election.
Publicity Report - Agnes has had three letters to the AVA published and has submitted the transcript of her speech to the BOS to the Advocate News. She is having a benefit brunch for her birthday Saturday at the Sr Center, and it is her 80th! Everyone is invited, and there was an offer for scholarships if needed so everyone can be there.
Street Protest Report - The Security guard at BOA talked to protesters, and said he likes that we created a job for him and wants us to come up with new strategies. Maybe Lily and some people will action another day - Tues or Wed. Sidewalk chalk is another thing we can use - CHALKUPPY - Chase bets against you on derivatives. New slogans & signs.
Christina was guest - she has ideas she brought from the Bay Area. She was involved in transition town movement, and likes environmental issues. She suggests informing the public through movie nights, teaching.
Sheila wants to do a radio show. KZYX needs better community input. KNYO owner a good guy buy seldom there.
Sheila and a few others still want to get a storefront presence, especially close to the November election. Ann suggested doing a fundraiser or event featuring Kay Rudin's sketches from the Bradley Manning trial. Kay likes the idea, and suggested doing something at the FB library.
The MCN listserve is full of bad feelings and ugly postings. Much vitrol there, with some good people acting like jerks.
Finance Report - We have $1,070. Mendo Litho got $100 and they did a good job. We have enough for filing fees
for the charter.
Next Meeting - Sept 7 2013 Sat 2-4pm.
