Hello Co-Occupiers

Here’s an article published by Nation of Change last week that gives a glimpse into just how deep this goes Right to a solid education?

The way I see it, every aspect of our social lives has been impacted by the aftermath created by the extreme capitalist movement that has been forging on at full throttle for the last 50+ years, and gone turbo in the last 20 or so. And so what we have here is a snapshot of the current condition of our education system, after years of continuous infection from privatization.

I am currently enrolled at CR where I am taking the last three courses of my sophomore year. My plan has been to transfer to Sonoma State to earn a BA through their online program. However, I don’t know that I will be able to afford it. I don’t really know, as I am a greenhorn to activism, but it seems to me that the only way to reverse the effects from capitalistic ventures that have infiltrated institutions is to build and motivate an informed citizenry...which takes quite a lot of time, energy and diligence from a small segment of the population.

Perhaps a massive break-in broadcast over the airways (War of the Worlds style), via satellite to all radio, television and Internet gateways, reporting the key points on all of the most pertinent and time sensitive issues, would affect an immediate awakening of the masses? Well, no harm in dreaming...at least not yet.

Tammy

Dear O/Mers.
Yesterday at our meeting Rex brought up an issue about COR losing accredation and failing here and in Eureka both. I was disturbed, so went online to fine out what's up, but there are schedules of classes, links to programs, and not a mention of any problems. However, I clicked on the link about collefe costs and was appaled to find that for a California resident living off-campus the fee is $14,971 per semester, and for non-residents the fee is $20,563!! How can anyone afford an education at that rate? Especially if Pell grants are gone, which is a threat. What can we do?? Our kids deserve education but most have to leave town to get school they can afford, and most parents cannot help the kids, they are broke.
