____________Committees______________
Housing: Committee fizzled and may need to restructure the group.
Hospitality House residents not in town; issues on "back Burner" --(asking City Council for a Shelter)
No followup at this time.
MCTV Video: Go to website to see, as it got bumped off schedule on MCTV.
Sheila is Tech person for videos. Parade is being shown on MCTV. Video of Paul Bunyan Parade
will be streamed on this station. During the PB Parade, the
SEIU Group was very effective, doing chanting.
Publicity: Poster making at Richard's before the parade.
Howard suggests Letters to Editor should go out on a regular basis, with
mention of OCCUPY Affiliation. Concerns should be brought before the assembly and then
we can write letters on a regular basis. OCCUPY has been ignored by our local press.
Outreach to SE:IU hs been successful. There has been fewer people attending our meetings.
Treasury Report: Sid reported that we have $125.00 and we still owe for seed money
which had been advanced for the Street Fair. We have expenses of $25.00 per month
for our website. We are close to bankrut now. Maybe we can go to a free website for a year.
Hats and T shirts haven't sold. We are broke after we pay bills. Mark suggests a Benefit Dinner at the
Senro Center. We now have friendlier members on the Senior Center Board.
Richard suggests a Fund Raising Committee be formed. Richard, Mark & Sheila will help.
Our local OM movement seems to be languishing and needs to re-energyze.
Bank vigils are important. There is a new OCCUPY book written and can be seen @
readersupoortednews.org.
Big demonstrations planned in NY. Obama must win big, or our nation i in trouble.
Fighting Foreclosure: Linda reports: in Jan the Homeowners Bill of Rights will go into effect.
CJHolmes is working for a moratorium, at the end of the year. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
need to be examined. CJHolmes has a Foreclosure website.
Rex Gressert brought news that the College of the Redwoods has lost its funding in our area.
C of R has lost its funding and accreditation in Eureka.
We closed our meeting citing the one year accomplishments:
Preventing foreclosures, appointees at Senior Center Board, creation of listserve and website,
getting on Facebook, Street Fair, T shirts & hats, alliance with SEIU (which has 200 members on the coast),
2 parades --- July 4 and (25 people @ Paul Bunyan), Bank Vigils, education on Nuclear Plants.
*****Agnes points out the persistance and strength of our powerful movement. She is expected to send
an addendum to these notes with additional achievements. She and Jesse went to the State Capitol Rally and
joined 300 other protestors to press for a 3 year moratorium on Foreclosures.
There was a lovely birthday party, with excellent refreshments and there were videos of the PB Parade.
Next Meeting will be Sat. Oct 6 @ Senior Center; time as usual 2pm to 4pm
Next meeting Facilitator will be Sheila
