Subject: a few accomplishments of OM
Hello Tom,James,Peter,Steve etal;
Saturday. Sept. 15, 2012, Occupy Mendocino celebrated the persistence of our powerful movement : The one year Birthday Party was held at the Fort Bragg Senior Center. That was two weeks after the Labor Day Paul Bunyan Parade.We were a 25 strong, visible contingent joined by members of Union SEIU ; the group chanting :
" no more cuts" when a speaker on a bull horn shouted: libraries: schools: wages: police: teachers: firemen etc. Pat Karch had made 2 enchanting,life sized puppets with a sign that said: (-Paul and Babe : were foreclosured on and moved to the Beach.) photos forthcoming.
Henrietta , age 84, and Howard, 95, among other young seniors, came to our General Assembly meeting and Birthday Party at the Senior Center celebrating our accomplishments. One of our accomplishments was getting three of our members onto the Sr. Ctr. Board of Directors through our numbers attending and observing board meetings and running for office.Taking power at the community level.
Many other accoplishments, such as the direct action and video made of 25 Occupy Mendocino and Occupy Ukiah members carrying signs (alleging mortgage fraud) at the Board of Supervisors County Offices with "crime scene tapes" in front of the Assessor's Office.-
A video was made by Laurie York from OM of a homeowner, facing foreclosure, who was able to look at his records at the Assessor/Recorder's office to find who owned his mortgage. None could be found due to loans having been securitized and sold to investors abroad. Still the bank will foreclose on his home. Result= We, both OM and OU, were asked to be speak on the next month's agenda to the Supervisors regarding fraudulent home foreclosures, which we did.
Accomplishment #2:
Many faxes were sent to our state legislators supporting the Home Owners Bill of Rights. This supported the direct action of two of us rallying as we joined three hundred other protestors at the State Capitol pushing for a three year Moratorium on Home Foreclosures. Result: the following Monday the legislature passed the Homeowners Billof Rights. Because these protections (5 laws) will go into effect only in January 2013. We are calling for Governor Brown to declare a state of economic emergency and a Moratorium on foreclosure Now until Jan.2013. Please join us in sending this message at change.org.petition: Foreclosure Moratorium Petition.to Governor Brown.
Number 3. accomplishments: The Fort Bragg Occupy Street Fair. You can go to occupymendo.net. for a film of the event drawing over 100 people.
Number 4. Our tech novice Sheila has put together two programs for MCTV about Occupy Mendocino.upcoming- the Labor Day Parade.
Number 6. We invited CJ Holmes to speak at the ML King program Foreclosures, and were instrumental in getting KZYX Money Talks Show to host CJ Holmes,and now she has a call in show onKPFA on Thursdays.
Don't believe the propaganda that the Occupy Movement is dissipating. You will be energized by listing your accomplishments face to face as a vibrant community within Ukiah. GO Occupy Ukiah!
Love,
Agnes Woolsey
