The open letter was a gimmick to get it into the newspaper-ie, letter to the Editor which I hope will inspire other OM to do same as we need a monthly volunteer list. of writers.. I did send a handwritten one, fax would be better .see Linda re fax.

Looks good Agnes.Does open mean it is strictly in an email form?
It would be great to have it hand written. I know it is harder,
but heard is that they actually keep hand written and only tally emails.

Good work today facilitating the meeting. It was tough with people tired and
realizing what an uphill battle it is doing this social issue stuff. The food seemed
to be a really good thing. Maybe need to have a potuck more often.

  Thanks, Richard

An open letter to President Obama 9/15/12

    The Honorable President Obama:
I listened to your magnificent speech at the D.N.C. and heard praises for your efforts increasing health care coverage for millions.
Politicians in the pay of big money have blocked or weakened legislation to regulate banks and to get the economy up and running. As a member ofOccupy I was appalled to learn that four million people are out of work for over a year and home foreclosures are on the rise nationwide.

I agree with Jim Hightower who said:
"The one simple thing that would add juice to the economy is a raise in the minimum wage to $10.00 an hour. this would elevate 30 million Americans now paid poverty wages. While it would be tough to raise a family on a $10.00 an hour wage ( roughly equal to a yearly income of $20,800) , it would create an immediate infusion into the economy with 30 million people buying goods and services they have put off due to poverty level wages."

A study by the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank last year found that every dollar increase in the minimum wage produces an immdiate bump in the next year of $2,800. per recipient in consumer purchases.

Poorly paid workers had no role in the economic crash of 2007-2008.
It was done by the highest paid CEOs and wealthiest speculators. I urge you to use you powers as president to light a fire under a corrupt Congress to raise the minimum wage now.

    Sincerely,
    Agnes Woolsey
