            Dear Agnes,

            Student loan rates will double in one week – if Republicans in the Congress continue to hold them hostage. We need to pressure them to act.

            Click here to demand your representatives in Congress stop the student loan rate increase.

            President Obama supports keeping the current Stafford Loan interest rate at a low 3.4% rate. The House Republican budget would make interest rates on those student loans double.

            Since passing their budget, House Republicans claim they want to keep student rates low too, but only if we “pay for” the $6 billion by taking it out of the hide of another vulnerable group. Not surprisingly, health care is one of their targets.

            Congress needs to hear from us, so they understand how important this is. We expect them to invest in our students’ future, not use them as pawns to make someone else suffer.

            Conservatives routinely claim we need severe austerity to save the next generation from massive debt. Yet here they are, about to dump more debt on them right now – an average of over $1000 in added interest costs over the burdens students already face.

            The last thing our economy needs is to pick the pockets of the next generation as college graduates struggle to get a toehold in the weak job market.

            We can end the obstruction. We just need to stand up and speak out. Click here to be heard.
