RICHARD & MARK ––
Sorry, but I can't take time just now to follow-through with the List Serve . . . so I hope you can see to it that this message [below] comes to the attention of all concerned. It was written at Charles Bush's suggestion and several RCSC Board members are aware of it.
To Board members, RCSCenter ––
Please permit me –– as a senior who has for years admired and enjoyed your facility –– this personal note concerning recent Resolutions of your Board:
Perhaps some of you know that I am hoping to celebrate my 95 years (actual birthday July 10) on Sunday, July 15 with a RCSC fund-raising ‘champaign brunch’. It so happens that shall be having the pleasure of a visit from my son –– Chef Michael of the New York City “4-star Soup Kitchen” [so labeled by the NYTimes] –– and thought it would be a nice idea for Chef Sal and Chef Michael to get acquainted.
Now I find myself again enmeshed in bureaucracy, something I’ve had experience with over the years but had hoped I had by-passed in my retirement! I do appreciate the situation you find yourselves in and realize that clarification and possibly some restructuring is in order.
For the life of me, however, I do not see how your stated policies either permit or require exclusion/censorship of the ‘general assembly’ meetings of Occupy Mendocino. From the beginning I’ve participated –– mostly as an observer –– in Occupy gatherings at the Senior Center. The majority of participants are seniors, their behavior most decorous. Occupy is not single-issue and certainly is not partisan politically. In light of your ‘non endorsement’ policy regarding use of facilities, clearly Occupy is in the clear.
In good conscience, however, I cannot go forward with my fund-raising brunch if my friends and colleagues of Occupy are censored or excluded. And, frankly, to have to wait until Board action on June 29 to send out RSVP invitations and arrange the brunch program would be most inconvenient.
I trust you can find a way to authorize use of Senior Center facilities by Occupy and let that be known promptly.
