[MCTG] Jitsi - Opensource Video Conference and Streaming

Hey MCTG,

I'm a security engineer who currently lives in the bay area but grew up in
Mendocino.

I went through the motions this weekend of hosting my own opensource video
conference system using jitsi. I was frustrated by the bad quality of
private solutions, and was also not happy about certain security mishaps
that have been revealed with companies like Zoom.

With Jitsi, I can have conference calls with video, record the video, and
live stream it to services like YouTube. The jitsi service now lives on
meet.dendritictech.com and is free to use (although you need a
username/password to create a meeting).

I have released the basic steps and configs to get it up and running in
AWS, you can find the source code for most of what I did here:
https://github.com/jnaulty/bootstrap-jitsi

Let me know if anyone is interested in learning more about switching from
Zoom, Google Hangouts, FaceTime, etc.

I have found that hosting your own server improves quality tremendously.
It's really nice to catch up with my family in Mendocino. And I just wanted
to extend my help to anyone who's having a hard time staying 'connected' in
these troubling times.

Best,

John Naulty Jr.
