[Kzyxtalk] A try at a triumph. A pretty good try.

Mervin Gilbert's /War of the Worlds!/ came off without a hitch tonight,
in the theatrical sense, anyway. Unfortunately the connection could not
be made to the transmitter to get it on the air. Everything worked great
the night before during testing, but at the moment of truth when we
started and I pressed the connect button on the magic box, it refused
and mocked me, blinking /Connecting... Connecting... Connecting.../, the
wretched ungrateful robot. Remedies were tried, paranoid fears of
sabotage were entertained, but I eventually gave up and just enjoyed
(and continued recording) the show.
Speaking of which, and I'll say this again as it gets closer, we can
play the recording on KNYO. I'd be happy to play it on Memo of the Air,
right off the bat.
So there you have it: /Mervin Gilbert's WAR OF THE WORLDS!/, recorded
live in front of a studio audience in Helen Schoeni Theater (featuring
the Pan-like Max the Piano Player on Clavinova) will appear 9pm this
Friday night on 107.7fm KNYO-LP Fort Bragg and KNYO.org and KMEC-LP Ukiah.
Next opportunity, which will be /Destry Rides Again/, Wednesday,
November 14, I think, in the same theater, if Joe Wagner will again
offer to give up the middle of his Wednesday night airtime to make it
possible, and he might, we'll bulletproof the system and kick it again.
KNYO's entire budget for a year is about $12,000. That's rent on the
performance space at 325 N. Franklin, and electricity and phone and fees
and water and maintenance and engineering and everything. Think what
KNYO could do and what level of reliability we might achieve with just a
little more money to do it with. Go to KNYO.org and look around for the
understated little yellow word, /Donate/, and click. If the donation
machinery is not straightforward enough for you, mail Bob Young a check;
the address of the Noyo Radio Project is right there. And right here:
