That's a good idea, Notty. It belongs with Kenneth Patchen's
/Journal of Albion Moonlight/, and /The Dogs of Elsinore/, one of Jean
Shepherd's thousands of radio monologues-- that one was from a news
report about canvas and wood WW2 glider planes and other small aircraft
at a remote airport (Elsinore) being mysteriously destroyed over the
course of several foggy full moons. At first nobody knew /what/ to
think, but it was eventually put down to a pack of suburban dogs and
delicious meat tallow in the wing and fuselage varnish.

In other news, I'm doing my show live from away at Juanita's
tonight so I won't be at KNYO (next to the Tip Top bar) to greet you and
turn on a mic for you. If you want to come in and talk about your
project or play your musical instrument, or rag on your lousy employer
and get yourself fired, or whatever, come next week (after 9pm Friday
Feb. 24t) and walk right in.

9pm to about 4am every Friday night on 107.7fm KNYO-LP Fort Bragg,
including exactly midnight to exactly 3am on 105.1fm KMEC-LP Ukiah. Also
via http://knyo.org and http://TuneIn.com (and look for KNYO-LP)

Further news: Tonight's show is the beginning of my 21st year of
Memo of the Air: Good Night Radio. From mid-February 1997 to the
Halloween show of 2011 it was on KMFB, commercial radio, which paid for
my time and also a cut of the underwriting I brought in, and also paid
me to fix things and build things at the station. Then an uncannily
Trump-like old man named Claude Hooten bought KMFB, fired everyone, got
rid of all the quirky specialty shows, changed it to KUNK (which, look
up what that means in Urban Dictionary; also /kunked/) and he went to
nearly-all-the-time automation and Fox Radio so-called News every hour
on the hour*. I started jumping through the stupid hoops to get my show
scheduled on KZYX, but got my first inkling that was never going to
happen after waiting eight months (I'm still waiting). A man who called
himself Uncle Rusty recognized my voice in the checkout line in Safeway
one night, and he recommended that I call Bob Young and get on KNYO.

The next day I got ahold of Bob. He said, "Meet me at the office.
I'll show you how to work our equipment, and we'll figure out what time
your show starts." That was mid-November of 2012, and I've been there,
at least electronically, ever since. And you can too! ( Bob's email
address is bobb at poetworld.net )

And a year and a half ago, KMEC also adopted my show. Thanks to the
wonderful Ed Nieves and Sid Cooperrider.

So: the culmination of twenty years of twenty-plus hours of
concentrated prep for almost 1000 weekly six-to-eight-hour shows. Again,
woo-hoo!

*Claude Hooten has since sold KUNK to a new guy. I'd like to meet him. I
heard Fort Bragg mayor Lindy Peters' voice coming out of the radio at
Albion Grocery a couple of weeks ago on a folksy avuncular
commercial-sounding note, so I guess Lindy's back on the air. Things are
looking up everywhere, I guess, besides KZYX.
